EVENTS

All attendees interested in competing in the costume contest MUST register on Saturday before 5 pm. Only one member of a group entry needs to register, but the group will compete at the level of member with the best costume. Contestants will be required to choose only one Sub-division to compete in. Once registered, contestants will be given an identifying badge. Contestants MUST appear at the designated staging area, with badge 45 minutes before the judging starts to be lined up in the correct order.

If weapons must be part of the costume, they may be displayed on stage only, and must be sheathed before leaving the stage. No fire, open flame, flash paper or powder or explosives of any kind may be used. If nudity is essential to a costume, please limit it to the stage area only.

Divisions

There will be three overall divisions based on experience, sub-divisions based on origin of costume and one category, Horror/Halloween/Science Fiction.

Young Fan:

Anyone 13 and under.
Within this group will be one category:
Horror/Halloween/Science Fiction

The category is further divided into 3 sub-divisions
Purchased
Adult Made
Contestant Made

There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each subdivision (9 prizes) and each Young Fan entry will receive a certificate of participation, signed by the judges. The Young Fans Division will be judged first and receive prizes as soon as that division’s judging is complete..

Novice:

Anyone 14 and older who has not won more than 3 times in competition.
Within this group will be one category:
Horror/Halloween/Science Fiction

The category is further divided into 2 sub-divisions
Purchased/Rented
Contestant Made
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each subdivision (6 prizes)

Craftsman:

Anyone 14 and older who has won 4 or more times in other competitions.
Within this group will be one category:
Horror/Halloween/Science Fiction

The category is further divided into 2 sub-divisions
Purchased/Rented
Contestant Made
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category of each subdivision (6 prizes)

Grand Prizes:

Anyone entering the competition can be awarded these prizes.
These awards consist of:

Most Original Costume
Scariest Costume
Best Costume in Show

These awards consist of larger prizes and will be presented at the end of the prize ceremony. Contestants who have won other divisions are also eligible for the Grand Prizes.

Hall Judging:

There will be informal “Honorable Mention” awards awarded by the Horrorfind staff to costumes that they like throughout the evening of the contest. Anyone who is not registered as a contestant, but attends the contest in costume is eligible to win these prizes.

Contest Judging:

A panel of judges will view each contestant or group on stage. The judging will be based on originality, creativity and overall presentation. Contestants may be interviewed on stage, but their answers will not be part of the judging. Each judge will score individual contestants on a scale of 1 - 10, and the highest combined scores will determine winners of each sub-division. The judges will hammer out any ties and the decision of the judges is final!
